Definition: Temporary and permanent cookies
Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer by a web server. The next time you visit the website, it can use the cookie to recognise your web browser. Cookies cannot run programs or transfer viruses to your computer. They serve to make the website more user-friendly and effective overall.
There are several types of cookies, the scope and function of which we would now like to explain:
- There are temporary or transient cookies that are automatically deleted when you close the browser. These include session cookies. These store a session ID which assigns the various requests made by your browser to a particular session. This allows your computer to be recognised when you return to our website. Session cookies are deleted when you log out or close your browser.
- There are also permanent or persistent cookies, which initially remain stored after the browser has been closed, but are automatically deleted after a predetermined period of time. The duration varies depending on the cookie, but we would like to point out that you can delete the cookies at any time using your web browser’s security settings.
- Third-party cookies are cookies that are offered by someone other than the Controller operating the website.
